How to add and install a new theme.

I have come on board here at BlackBerryBoards in order to try and make it easier on how to achieve some tasks with your Blackberry Device. Think of it as a Blackberry 101, only with a more user friendly walk through.

My first article is to show you how to install a new theme on your Blackberry.

What is a theme? A theme is basically the way your home screen displays your icons are presented on your device, complete with background images (some of which allow you to modify to your own desire.

Depending on where you are, and which carrier you are with, your Blackberry Smartphone should have at least a couple of default themes. Chances are that you will want to change the Theme, to coincide with a holiday, a new Blockbuster movie, or just something showing what mood you are in on that particular day.

Themes are available to download from the Blackberry Appworld on your device, or from a number of third party providers or on various forums such at BlackBerryBoard forums. Some artists may wish to charge a fee for their hard work and some offer to share their work for free. For this guide, I have used the Appworld installation

Ok, so I hear you, you’ve had enough of the jibber jabber, let’s get on to the ‘how to’ guide.

First things first, Items you’ll need.

    A Blackberry Smartphone
A source for a new theme
A new theme (ensure it is compatible with your device and OS)
A few minutes to spare to download and install.

    Installing the theme.

The easiest way to download and install a theme is to use your Blackberry.

Navigate to Appworld on your device, select the theme section and then the genre

Select your desired theme and select download

Your Blackberry will now start to download and install your theme

Once the theme has installed, you will be asked if you would like to activate the theme or not

Presuming you have selected Yes on the previous step, you will get 2 confirmation messages that the theme has been installed successfully, one on the old theme and the other on the new theme

Select OK on the confirmations and then go to your homepage where you will see the new background and new icons.

If you are happy with the newly installed theme, then that's great, but sometimes the background may not be to your liking and have one on your Blackberry which you'd like to use.

This might not be possible on all themes, it would depend on the developer who created it, if it is then follow these steps below.

Firstly press your Blackberry Button, navigate to and select Options. When there, scroll to Themes in the menu (or press 'T' on your keyboard then confirm the selection.

Scroll to the Wallpaper section and confirm the selection.

You will now be shown any albums which you may have, select your desired new background. Press the escape key, at this point you will be asked ? Set As Wallpaper?

Select Save, this task will them be completed. Should you now discover that you don't like that image, you can reset to the original look. Follow the above steps, but in stead of selecting wallpaper, scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you will see Theme Defaults Reset. Select this option, you will then be shown a screen asking which options you wish to reset (Wallpaper, Layout, Download Folder Icon Arrangement). Make your choice and select apply, a warning message will appear advising that you will lose any customisation, confirm you want to reset by selecting 'Yes' Your theme will now reset to it's default settings.

This completes the walkthrough on installing a new theme. I hope that it has been beneficial to you. Look out for more 'How to Guides by UK_BBGUY.
